Child doesn't wave or point

Hi, my son just turned 18 months. I've been working with his development everyday after and before work. My husband has ADHD and I have autism. My son refuses to point and wave. I don't know what to do to get him to wave and point before working on the other things that he has issues with.

Before the 18 month assessment done by fraser health nurses, he had been hitting 100% in every milestone. This one however has been different. Gross motor skills and communication he hit the cut off and now my nurse is expecting autism. How do I help my son's development?

I tried going to my grandmother in law but she ended up saying some pretty rude comments.

Waiting to see any specialists in Canada is going to take MONTHS. I don't want my son's development to go side ways to the point he can't catch up.

Any advise?

I have heard good things about Hanen's More Than Words and It Takes Two to Talk books for ideas on how to develop all the communication and interaction skills that come before speech, like waving and pointing. Perhaps have a look at those for ideas on how to support this part of his development? I think More Than Words is more focused on autistic children and It Takes Two to Talk is more general.
