Does your 3 year old sit through a meal?

A quick meal, eg a sandwhich and drink in a cafe? Mine keeps trying to wander off. It's a nightmare. Is it normal?

Yes, my daughter is almost 3.5 she loves going to coffee shops and will sit fine and will also sit through dinners out, she’s eaten in lots of ‘fancy’ places and is usually always fine for an hour or so drawing/playing with her magnets and then after an hour & once she’s had her food I get her tablet out.

At home my 3.5 year old will not sit for a meal and even says he does not want to eat anything.
With pizza or sandwiches he will sit and feed himself. If I have fun with him and make a game of it I can get food that needs to be eaten with a fork in his mouth but it really is not fun. I asked my friends and they say they also have to jump through hoops to get 3 or 4 year olds to eat at the table as well.

In a café or restaurant, yes. At two, that was still challenging, and one of us sometimes had to take her outside for a bit, but it got much easier at three – hopefully it will do the same for you soon!

At home we do let her get up and play once she's finished eating if she wants to, as that gives us a chance for adult conversation (and it's not her fault my eating is slowed down by feeding her younger sister).
