3 year old addicted to particular songs

My son (almost 3) has an addiction to some songs we play in the car. We have listened to the same songs for about a year now. I try to put other songs on but he breaks down into a tantrum and the only way to calm him is to put his favourite songs on.

Shall I just keep playing them? Is this cultivating an addiction? Is it mean of me to just put something else on? I have tried this but he cries and cries until it's put on.

I also cannot put on the radio or my own songs at home as this causes a tantrum. I cave in and just turn it off as I don't want to distress him. I realise this may be causing him to be 'getting his own way' too much. But also I just don't know how to break this addiction without him becoming distressed. I would like him to experience other music. No signs autism etc. Other than this addictive behaviour his development is spot on.
