9 year old really bad attitude

Recently my 9 year olds attitude has been so bad he's been so rude to me and just generally mean when that's not usually like him. Not sure if this is a developmental phase? Finding it hard to manage as he's also not listening, going on games when told not to, have to wait about an hour for him to get ready (even though he's always asking to go out) he's just constantly moody lately and can't seem to get through to him! Sounds extreme but I'm now dreading the teenage years as it feels it's coming already and I'm worrying how he will be then with all those hormones rushing around if it's this bad now.

Could it perhaps be something happening at school that he's not sharing with you? someone told me children act out when they don't know how else to deal with their emotions. And the best thing to do is be there for them. Show kindness and patience and bring them closer to you during this difficult time because it is just a cry for help on disguise xx

He's been home educated since last year due to school being too much for him. Also made the decision to take his younger brother out of school too, much more dads decision than mine, I'm thinking that's playing a big part of it as now he's getting no peace as his younger brother is very sensory overwhelming even for me. Now I feel kind of stuck!
