My baby will be 7 mths old in about 1.5 weeks and still can't sit up and doesn't seem too interested. anyone else find the same thing? the books say he should be able to sit up by 7 mths at the latest but i don;t think he will

Meh, ignore the books. Mine was about 9 months before he could sit witout having to be surrounded by cushions.

DS3 only just in the last few days learned to be able to sit without being propped up - and he's just turned 10 months!

Mum1369 · 25/03/2008 13:03

Mine is about the same age - isn't sitting up unaided either. But he prefers trying to stand all the time - when I pull him forward he just straightens his legs to stand. My DS1 was the same and didn't really sit for ages but was quick to walk.
I'm not worried, he is lively and interested and rolling.
Is your little one doing other things ?

biglips · 25/03/2008 13:05

mine was 8 months old

mrsshackleton · 25/03/2008 13:18

don;t worry dd1 crawled before she sat up (admittedly at six months but still all wrong ...) dd2 didn't sit until 8 months. He'll get there!

mylovelymonster · 25/03/2008 13:26

DD was 10 months before she sat up - was too busy crawling and didn't want to sit still at all, so learned late (when she had a cold and had to slow down).
If everything else is fine then don't worry.

MY ds2 didn't do anything except eat until he was about 9 months. Was slow to walk too. Now at sixth form and got 12 gcses mostly A or A* so nothing to do with intelligence. My dd was much quicker but isn't as intellectual as her brother so definately don't worry. If that's possible as a parent sadly I think it's part of the job decription.

Oh and throw away the book or you'll drive yourself mad. These milestones are based on averages and to get averages you have to have the 2 extremes

marge2 · 25/03/2008 13:45

Tear the books up! Load of old rubbish and based on averages. My DS1 couldn't even roll over til he was 8 months old. Being my PFB I was getting slightly worried. I needn't have. He rolled over, sat up, crawled and walked all before he was 1 year old ......and shortly afterwards was climbing onto the work tops in the kitchen...so count your blessings and enjoy the time when you have a baby/child that stays in one place! Pretty soon you won't have a miute to read the damn books anyway!!

rita2007 · 27/03/2008 21:11

ya, he does try to stand up.....just doesn't want to sit yet. he may be going through a growth spurt too as he had started to skip the 4 am night feed and now wakes up for it again...... so let's see how long it lasts ;o)

DS didn't sit up till 9 months. It's quite normal not to be able to sit up at 7 months.
