Two toddlers running rings around me!

Hi, I’m full time mummy to a 2.5 year old little girl and 18 month old little boy. I love them to pieces but the past few weeks they’ve been a real challenge when together (which is 90% of the time!). They get up to all kinds and I know they’re just being toddlers, mischievous and having fun, but they also do not listen to anything I say and the house has felt pretty unruly recently. I’ve always tried to take a ‘gentle parenting’ approach and talk to them about why we don’t do certain things, but they just laugh or run off and honestly the only way they stop is if I shout at them. Not just once in a slightly raised voice which they seem to find hilarious, but really really bawl at them. It works but I then feel guilty and realise that they are only then doing as I ask because they are technically a little bit scared of me!? Feeling at a loss and not currently being the mummy I want to be. Any advice greatly appreciated! TIA x

No but I personally don't think that explaining thing to toddlers helps much, unless it's something "no, hot!"

I'd recommend reading either Little Angels or The House of the Tiny Tearaways. Both are evidence based and both are by Dr Tanya Byron, who has actually had children, unlike some "baby & child gurus" Wink
