4 month old won't sleep during the day

Hi,

My DD is 4.5 months (20 weeks) and she sleeps 10-11 hours at night, but she refuses to nap during the day. It takes me rocking her for up to half an hour to get her to nap and then it's never for more than half an hour at a time. She usually gets upset before she falls to sleep then wakes up crying too. As the day goes on she gets grumpier and grumpier which I guess is because she's tired, and she doesn't want to play with anything and just whines, and it's starting to drive me mad. Can anyone give me any advice?

Babies sleep matures during sleep regression at 4-6 months. Try to adjust her sleeping time during the night to match her sleep need (she might need less sleep during night). I found that 4 months old baby might need 13-16 hours of sleep so she might get too much sleep at night.

The 4 month sleep regression is real and brutal! I remember spending ages rocking my little one to sleep and then he’d wake up 30 mins later and be so grumpy. Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do except try to ride it out. Keep supporting baby to sleep as you have been. It’s great she sleeps so well at night, but possibly she’s having too much night sleep so it affects her daytime rest too?
Also keep wake windows in mind to avoid over or under tiredness.
It’s an unpleasant time but by 6 months their sleep has matured and so should be much better.
