Hearing in newborn

Hey!

My little boy is 4 days old. He passed the newborn hearing check in both ears. However, I am worried about his hearing. If there are loud noises e.g I dropped something, he doesn't react at all?

Can the hearing test ever be wrong? I'm concerned as he doesn't seem to react/cry at loud noises at all!

Thanks x

Talk to your GP or health visitor and ask for a referral to Audiology. The newborn hearing screen screens for the common types of deafness but it won't detect all babies with a hearing loss. Audiology can do more in depth testing.
Your baby probably does have normal hearing but is just not responding to those sounds. Babies can sleep through a lot of noise without waking up. There is a check list in your red book which shows how listening to and making sounds should develop.
