How do I get my DS to go back to (nearly) sleeping through the night?

DS is 17 wks and at about 14 wks managed to sleep from 7 til 7 once. Otherwise he slept from 7 until anywhere between 4 and 6 am which tbh I was more than happy with! However about 2 weeks ago he caught a bug which resulted in him only drinking half as much in the day and predictably waking up more at night. The problem is he has been back to his normal healthy self for about 10 days but is now waking up every 4 hours at night. He empties a 6 oz bottle each time so is obviously hungry rather than wanting comfort. I don't want to wean him yet if I can help it but would really like some more sleep! (his new sleep pattern has coincided with his 2 yr old sister deciding to wake up an hour earlier in the mornings!)

Does anyone have any ideas? He's a big lad and I'm contemplating trying Hungry baby formula but not sure about giving him something designed to be hard to digest.

Growth spurt? 16 weeks-ish is a classic time for one.

Possibly, although I assumed (perhaps wrongly?) that if it was a growth spurt he would be hungrier during the day which he isn't, just at night.
