Delayed Speech

I'm just looking for a little advice.

My two year old says words but not very often and it's very random. He occasionally calls me mummy and my partner daddy. He can say his brother's name but it's when he wants to.

I would say he copies more what you say rather than say it for himself. He's on the waiting list for speech and language therapy but only just been referred.

We try to do plenty of talking reading books singing and we are explaining everything we do but some days like today he just isn't interested in speaking. We've been trying to name some vegetables which he was doing the other day but today he's not into it.

Did anyone else's child say very little at 2 and a half but we're able to talk later on.

He doesn't show any signs of autism or anything like that. He's mostly able to follow instructions.

Did anyone have any exercises to do that could help while I'm waiting for the speech and language therapist.

I'd say the main sign my DD had at this age of ASD was not speaking. She did have other signs though like being very fussy with food.

I would do this progress checker and book a call with one of their SLTs once you have the results of the checker, it's free as it's a charity although you can donate if you want to.

Did the HV refer him to SLT and have they referred him for a hearing test too?
