7 month old development

Hi, just a bit confused and wondering if any other mums could shed some light for me.

my son is 7 month and 2 days, he rolls belly to back, can sit up but sometimes it’s as if he can’t be bothered so just flops back. We have him on foam mats with toys all around. He won’t roll back to belly! He lies on his back and strains to get his head off the floor, there’s a good few cm between the mats and his head! If I put him on his belly he sometimes does an army crawl (very slowly!) for toys but not often. He’s standing with help and if against furniture he can do it on his own for a few seconds but he has to be put there he doesn’t pull himself up.

after that big rant I just wondered is that all normal for a 7 month old? The rolling worries me most but then I feel maybe he’s making up for it in other ways 🤷🏼‍♀️

It sounds like he's doing very well for 7 months! Rolling is a bit of a funny one – some babies roll all over the place and some just really aren't bothered. DD1 was pulling up and cruising the furniture before she bothered rolling back to belly – I used to wonder if she'd fall backwards trying to walk and get stuck like a turtle. (She didn't.)

If they're doing other gross motor skills, like your boy is, it's almost always just a matter of their priorities.

My little girl turns 7 months tomorrow and she hasn't rolled from back to stomach yet - I'm not worried about this as she really doesn't like tummy time so she probably is avoiding going onto her stomach.
She only rolls from stomach to back to get off of her stomach when we are doing tummy time but doesnt roll at any other time.
She also holds her herself really well and can sit up unaided for a few seconds before toppling to one side - it's just that balancing she needs to grasp.
It sounds like your little one is doing amazing - I wouldn't stress about him not going back to belly yet as babies all develop at different stages.
