DS has never been a good sleeper, apart from the glorious 6 months when he was aged between 1.5-2 years old. Since he turned 2 sleep has been very up and (mainly) down so coming up to almost 3 years now.
For the last year or so he’s been waking at least a few times a week, then about 6 months ago it was every night but he’d go back to bed and for the last 3 months sleep has been so dreadful that he’s been sleeping on a duvet on our bedroom floor (he won’t sleep in our bed) from around 1am every single night. He settles at bedtime fine, aside from the odd delaying tactic so I don’t believe timings or routines are playing a part.
I know that letting him sleep in our room definitely hasn’t helped…well aware of that but we were at a loss. DH and I both work full time in busy jobs and we have a 2.5 year old too, we need sleep. However, in recent weeks DS has been waking earlier in the evening and wanting to be in our room, even when we’re not yet asleep which I don’t want to encourage. It can then take hours to get him back to bed and the worst part is a few times recently he’s wet the bed whilst awake when we’ve taken him back to bed because I think he knows that’ll get him the attention he wants.
He has a nightlight in his room, white noise on (at his request) and a little light on the landing too.
We’re at a loss and wondered if anyone has any other tips. Thanks for reading this probably incoherent exhausted ramble x
