7 month old not rolling

Our 7 month old has only rolled a handful of times, I’ve tried so many different things to get him interested in doing so.

he is brilliant sitting up by himself, he’s almost crawling he just needs to go forward instead of backwards. But with rolling it just seems like an absolute no for him. If he holds onto my hand he will pull himself over, but not by himself.

Should I be worried about this at all? Has anyone else little one skipped rolling? I’ve been told by friends to take him to a health visitor but am I just overthinking things, as I know all babies have their own timeline for milestones.

any advice would be amazing. Thank you

I wouldn’t worry if he’s meeting other milestones like sitting and crawling etc. Keep encouraging him to do it and eventually he’ll get the hang of it. If he’s working on sitting or crawling then he may just not be interested in rolling at the moment.
My little one is 10 months and has never crawled but could walk on his own just before 9 months. He could roll from front to back but has only just started rolling back to front. They just do things in their own time. At his 9 month review the health visitor wasn’t worried.
I’m sure your friends are trying to be helpful and saying to call the health visitor if you’re worried, not that there’s something wrong with him so you need to call them.

I'd agree with @Richie23 – he's more than meeting other gross motor milestones, so he just isn't bothered about rolling for some reason. Quite a few babies aren't. DD1 cruised before she could roll back to front, and I used to wonder if one day she'd fall backwards trying to walk and end up stuck like a turtle. (She didn't.) She's 4 now, runs, jumps, climbs, rides her bicycle, all completely fine.

Thank you both so much for the reassurance, I really appreciate it! You’ve both really put my mind at ease :)

Only one of mine rolled before 7 months, and she was missing half her arm so easier for her. The other two learnt to roll very quickly after they'd learnt to crawl - because it then had a purpose for them.

Mine never rolled other than by accident, he went in to crawl and then walked at 14 months. He’s a teenager now and can roll just a stage he never did as a baby
