Help for ASD sibling

Hi does anyone have any advice please if they have a child with ASD. My daughter is 4 and my son is 2, currently awaiting ASD and 99.9% sure he has it.

How do people cope when going out for the day or even for a few hours? My daughter wants to play with me but most of my time is spent with my son stopping him from running off, eating things he shouldn't, having meltdowns etc. I'm starting to feel really bad for my daughter who asks for me to play with her all of the time but my son takes up all of my time.

Would love to hear any tips. Thank you.

I am in same situation and have been for years! My 8 yo is ASD diagnosed in reception what you've explained is my life! His brother is 1 year younger and we never go out anymore because of this. He has ran away from me so many times I get so much anxiety and practically it doesn't work unless I have someone with me which can't always happen and I don't wanna always ask for help. It's so hard isn't it! Anytime he's overwhelmed he will just leave no matter where we are and i physically cant do it and like you said its not fair on the other child who then has to leave.

I have no tips unfortunately as I'm still in the same situation years later although it has gotten lots better with the meltdowns! I just still can't handle it alone because he still will just run away.

Thank you so much for the reply.

I'm so sorry it hasn't gotten better for you. I'm going to try and seek out some more help from charities etc.

Ordered a stretchy wrist rein type thing and going to try that out. I'm assuming he will just sit down and get frustrated if he can't go where he wants but I need to keep trying things. I hope things get better ❤️‍🩹
