11 month old not pointing/waving etc.

I will try and keep this short but basically my sisters baby was born 10 days before my son so it is really hard not to compare them both, she herself admits to doing the same.

Anyway, they are both 11 months old and my nephew is now pointing, waves when you say hello/goodbye and my son is doing neither of these things and I’m sick of worrying about it. I’m a very anxious over-thinker so it’s very easy for me to get in a right state of panic over things.

My son is a lovely little thing, super happy and smiles a lot of the time. He sat up on time, crawled on time, he’s pulling himself up things and starting to cruise, babbles, says mama dada baba, responds to his name, dances to music etc. so I know realistically I have no real need to worry.

So what I’m asking is, when did your children point, clap, wave etc? Especially if maybe you were worried about them being on the ‘later side’ of doing these things. Also any tips on how to stop being an anxious wreck over everything imaginable? 🥴 Just kidding but also sort of not kidding.

I came here to say I am in the exact same position! I have an 11 month old who does not wave / clap or point. I have been trying to do all of them with him for a long time but nothing seems to be working. My baby is the same in that he’s very smiley and good eye contact.

I’m an anxious over thinker worrier too 😂 Im really hoping that it’ll just click in the next few weeks…

@L0ts

Not much advice really other then my DS only started pointing in the 15/16 month and even now he’s not a massive pointer , he points various times a day but not as much as my nephew who is 6 weeks older than my DS ..but my DS is a big talker he’s 16 months and iv lost count how many words he says .

my DS also brings things over to me , shows me things, shares things and use lots of other gestures- he clapped at 11 months waved at 12 but then he didn’t wave much but now at 16 months he’s always waving lol

I worried my self silly about pointing also but I’m just happy he’s does point now even if it is only a handful of times a day ( sometimes more )and just to add iv read on lots of other threads it’s not considered late until 18months so in terms of babies that’s a huge amount of time to develop

My 14mo pointed about 10mo, clapped at 12mo but doesn't wave yet. He's also got no words yet so your 11mo is ahead there. Though mine did walk at 8mo so just shows babies do things on their schedule not yours😉

Thank you for your replies ladies! I have to try and remind myself that one day he doesn’t do something and then the next he just does it. Just yesterday alone he started to say peekaboo 🥹 Although it’s more ‘awwwboo’ it’s adorable. He also just started throwing a ball in the air too after watching us do it yesterday. I feel some what more relaxed about it, he still has plenty of time to point etc and I’m sure it’ll come before I even know it ❤️

My son is 18 months old and he doesn't wave or point he doesn't say no words only muma and dada. I felt like he was behind as my friends DS is four weeks younger and he is very advanced and miles ahead of my DS. I'm trying not to panic and just waiting to see if he does it in his own time x

I just wanted to update this for anybody coming across it in the future! My 11 month old is now pointing at absolutely everything! He started doing it maybe a week a go! He will be 12 months old in a weeks time! ☺️

@L0ts hiii just a quick message to see how your sons getting on?

L0ts · 13/08/2024 13:59

@Mumof3bb1 Yeah he’s doing great! So he’s almost 19 months old now and is a very typical toddler. He does say some words, still points to what he wants/to show interest, started to have tantrums (help 😅) but overall I’d say he’s developing normally. His cousin is still ahead of him though, he says a looooot more words but I’ve tried not to worry about it too much.
