Nursery/speech therapy

My DS is almost 3 & behind with his speech. He says lots of words now but not very long sentences & not massively clear.

I've spoken to nursery who say as far as they're concerned he's ok & coming along well.

The health visitor said they think he is behind & may need some help/speech therapy to "catch up".

The HV say nursery should be supporting this & putting steps into place. I was made to feel that nursery were being unhelpful. I didn't think it was their job to do this & was after opinions on other people in this situation if possible please?

Basically how have nursery supported any speech delayed children? Do they make a plan to help etc etc?

My daughter is almost 2 so a bit different issues, as she is not talking much yet. We self-referred her to SALT. In the meantime the nursery made an „action plan” of simple targets for her to reach and gave us a copy. They also filled in and sent a detailed questionnaire to SALT as requested by the service.

Perhaps you should ask them if they can work with your LO on his speech and set a list of targets to achieve? The referral I would do myself if possible in your area, otherwise ask the HV to do it.

Thank you for your reply.

They haven't given us anything just said they'd let me know if they thought there was a concern. Maybe they genuinely doing think that is but he is certainly behind.

I'd prefer an action plan to work on too. Will look into the self referral path. Hope every thing goes ok with your little one Smile
