I'm wondering if anyone has experience with a child with ADHD where their language development was impacted.
-My son is 4 , he is constantly moving, cannot sit still unless to watch tv, and sometimes will move while watching tv.
-He finds it very hard to concentrate on any activity and will often run off after a few minutes and not stick around to complete puzzles, painting, drawing, listen to books.
- I'm am awaiting an assessment, ADHD is in our family so I suspect that is the case.
However - he also seems to lack conversation skills:
-He will only have back and forth of very simple information - no explaining about the past or talking about the future.
- No telling stories about anything that happened or describing anything really
- he has said some rare statements about things like ' I missed you when you were not here' but this was literally once
- I have to really get stern to get an answer from him at times.
- I don't know if he is not listening, not able to listen or has no interest in having a conversation. I don't know if he is so distracted by ADHD that he cannot concentrate while things are happening to remember them and tell them later or maybe he does remember but has no interest in sharing information.
- he is very talkative but not conversational, he is very active, he loves to play- argy bargy type activities
- he has great vocab and can label most things
- his language developed as normal until 3- the conversation didn't come
- he is playing a bit more with kids in preschoolers now but not having a conversation hinders friendship.
Can I ask if anyone has a child similar with ADHD, and if treated did the language/ communication then improve?
Sorry for long post. I would love him to achieve his potential.
