17 month baby not gained weight in 3 months

Hi everyone. My daughter is 17 months and since December has lost an ounce each month. I know an ounce isn't a lot, but obviously she should be gaining weight. She's always been on the small side, but had gone up to between the 25th and 50th centile lines. Now she's heading back down to 9th. Do babies sometimes not gain weight for a period of time? Health visitors made me feel completely inadequte, which is why I don't normally bother talking to them. Also, they said I should give her soya milk - does anyone know why that might be?
Thanks

will watch this thread with interest. DS2 was fat at 6 months was 21lb's he is now 17 months and weighs 23lb's so in a year he has put on 2lb's !!!

I have not been to see the HV for fear of her telling me I am doing something wrong when I really don't think I am.

i think the more active my ds became the less weight he gained he was quite heavy at one satge and slowly lost weight but it steaded out when growth spurt and energy spurt was over

if too worried i would ask gp

My DD only gained 2lbs between being 12 months and 24 months. HV made me think it was cos she had inherited diabetes from her dad (!) and freaked us both out till I could get to a PROFESSIONAL who tested her blood and said she was absolutely fine. HVs are not my fave people!

She crawls along at great speed! I think you're right and that she had a spurt and is now levelling out and going back to her natural weight curve. Have jsut spoken to her nursery who said she eats the same as the others and they can't stand HVs either! Thanks for all your advice girls, am feeling reassured.
