6 month baby keeps holding his head on one side for a few seconds at a time

My ds is 6 months and had just started doing this strange thing with his head which is worrying me. Every now and again he will hold his head on the left hand side, like he is stretching his neck or something but it looks very odd - do you think this is ok or should I be worried?

Could he be having a wee?

My dd does this. which side it is varies. It started when I took her on a bus + she realised that by cocking her head she could see up and out of the window and thus a whole new perspective. She has done it periodically since.

Maybe your ds is similar? In any case, if he doesn't seem bothered by it I wouldn't worry tbh.

I wouldn't be immediately concerned. He could just be thinking or experimenting with how the world looks from that angle.

Ear infection might possible spring to mind, but there would be other symptoms. Distress, redness, feeding difficulties etc.

Without other symptoms I'd be inclined to think quirky not scary.

My dd does it sometimes and rubs her ear with her shoulder. I thought it was a problem with her ear at first, but now I know she just does it when she's tired. Most babies rub their ears with their hands, but... ah well...

I would check with the gp that he hasn't got mild torticollis or 'wry neck' as holding the neck to one side could be an indicator.

It can be a sign of a lazy eye, as they turn their head to favour the stronger eye, might be worth looking to see if he has a slight squint. Tho my DS had a slightly inturned eye and head on one side but after checking there was no prob with eyesight, just a little quirk that passed!
