Do second teeth hurt as they come through?

DD is 5.8. Yesterday she started saying that one of her bottom middle teeth is hurting, and she's saying "ow" a lot when eating. She has a small ulcer on her lip just in front, but she says it's definitely the tooth (or "the bit around the tooth") that's hurting her. Could this be a new tooth growing behind it, or does she have some sort of horrible infection?

I usually clean her teeth in the evening, & she does them in the morning, plus she uses mouthwash, but maybe I should be finishing them off in the morning too?

Tooth doesn't appear to be wobbly BTW.

Thanks

My DD's second teeth (she's now lost the bottom 2) had half come through before the teeth fell out so the baby teeth obviously weren't as ready to move as the second teeth were to come up. She too said they hurt, especially the last one that came out this weekend and I guess it's because there's not as much room and the new tooth is trying to get through.

Worth a call to the dentist in case it IS a problem, before it gets worse, IMHO (work for a dentist)

Thanks - is 5.8 a bit too young to be losing teeth?

No it isn't. The worry here though, I would say, is that if it IS a hole in a tooth she will end up in a lot more pain if its not seen to soon. Hopefully its just the new teeth though

I remember getting my wisdom teeth at about age 20 and they bloody well hurt like hell, which is why I always sympathise a lot with teething babies/children.
