Won't sit down

Heyyy.. so my little girl started school this September after just turned 4 in the August.. anyway had her first parents evening last night and they said she won't sit down at all on the carpet... What can I do? Im a very anxious about it.. is this normal or not?? I want to cry 😭😭

I'd start by asking her about it, very casual and low key. I have a daughter the same age, and for her, I probably wouldn't ask directly 'why don't you sit on the carpet?', as no matter how neutral and gentle I was, she'd probably tell me 'I don't know' and hide her face against me, as she'd be aware she wasn't doing what she 'ought to'.

Instead I'd ask something like 'what story did you hear at school today?' (assuming they do a story or a song or something during carpet time), and then ask something like 'where do you sit during storytime?' or 'what do you do during storytime?' That would have a decent chance of getting me 'there a carpet, but I don't sit on it' or something that, and on a good day, a wondering 'oh?' might get her to tell me why. Then you can figure out where to go from there.

Is there a reason that you're so anxious about it @Dbrea? What Dd they say? Was it just that she won't sit on the carpet or did they bring up any other concerns?

No other concerns.. just that she won't sit down during carpet time.. I think I'm abit down about it cuz she made it out to be a massive massive deal and no positives were said.

If they didn't say anything positive at all I wouldn't be very happy about that.

Not sitting when the others sit is a bit unusual though at 4 but it does happen. Did she sit on the carpet at Nursery?
