Does my DS sound neurodiverse

He's 5 in December

Reasons I'm wondering are:

Explosive tantrums that last up to 20 mins

Strong specific interests that he doubles down on, it's hard but not impossible to get him to entertain anything else

Sleep never been brilliant and since starting school he's been waking at 4:30-5am

Transitions are really hard for him

Reasons I'm not sure:

He's pretty sociable
Speech and language comprehension are good
He doesn't do any stimming type behaviours
He can concentrate fairly well I think
He's starting to develop some abstract thinking

I think being sociable can be a bit of a red herring. You can get ND people who want to chat and make friends. DD is on the Pathway and has always had a lovely group of friends throughout school.

He does sound very much like my DD with the difficulties with regulation, transitions and sleep.

I think I'd ask your HV to do the 5 year Ages & Stages Social & Emotional Assessment.

Let us know how you get on.
