Son won’t drink

Can anyone suggest how I can get my son to drink more? He’s 8 years old and just isn’t bothered about drinking. I’ve bought him his own juice, I’ve told him how important it is to keep hydrated and he’s just not bothered. He’ll have a tiny sip after his tea and before bed. Trouble is, he’s always struggled with going to the toilet for a poo, ever since being a newborn and it’s really starting to have an effect on him. He can go days without passing anything and when he does it’s huge for his body to pass (sorry) so it hurts him. I’ve given him movicol to try and soften things and it works to pass something but when I stop giving him it then he stops going to the toilet. Can anyone suggest anything I can do to get him to drink more? Thank you in advance

I sympathise as my DD won't drink much, although she's older.

Will he drink more if you try diverging like orange juice diluted with sparking water and a fun straw?

Both of mine loved a milkshake when they got back from school made with milk. banana and done frozen berries.

If he's constipated, have you had a look at the ERIC website? That's supposed to be very good Flowers

Thank you for your reply, we have juice in the house and I even took him to the shop so he could choose his juice ! He will drink pop but that’s not the right kind of fluids to be drinking on a regular basis. I have given him movicol this morning which “made” him go to the toilet but I don’t want to force his body into going it needs to be going naturally. I will check that website out though thank you x

At that age my DD would drink the juice if it was diluted with sparking water so it's more like pop. She wasn't that interested in juice straight from the carton.

How is he with high water foods like soup, broccoli, cauliflower, melon and strawberries?

He loves all of them. We always have watermelon in our house. He’s a very good eater yet very slim (jealous, I look at chocolate and the lbs fly on) haha seriously though, I keep saying do you want a drink, or have you had a drink etc and I’m always making fresh so it’s not standing there all day x
