My daughter was born 6 weeks early so I’m using her corrected age of 8 months. Her prematurity was due to me having placenta accreta and haemorrhage and she spent 2 weeks in NICU/SCBU but otherwise straightforward. I have some niggling concerns about her development.
She is under Paeds and Physio. Paeds want to review her again when she turns 1. Physio have said she’s on the low end of ‘normal’ for gross motor skills and will review again in 6 weeks. She has some fluid in her ear which is being reviewed by Audiology.
These are my concerns:
- Delayed head control which got better at around 4/5 months corrected.
- Not sitting independently. She can sit supported for a few seconds but then topples over without putting her hands out.
- Not weight bearing on legs
- Doesn’t laugh unless she is tickled
- Opens and closed hands repetitively, especially when excited
- Not babbling much other than ooos and aaahs and blowing raspberries. No consonant sounds.
Positives are that she is rolling well both ways, she has good eye contact and people comment on how smiley she is but I definitely have concerns when comparing her corrected age to my other two young children who were born at term. She is seeing the HV next month for her 9 month review but is unable to do a lot on the questionnaire.
I have anxiety for the first time that I’m really struggling with. The ‘wait and see’ for my daughter is torture and feel I’m over analysing everything. Speaking to my GP about how to manage this.
Thoughts anyone?
