Hi, first time poster, extremely long time lurker!

My son has always been quite nervous but has increasingly been quite anxious regarding school and extra curricular activities. For example, we've always taken him swimming and lessons but he's been crying going in for the last few months. New school year hasn't been as bad as I've anticipated but he's definitely been on the verge of tears every morning.

He's recently started group piano lessons, after he asked to start them. But on each occasion he's been upset and the teacher has brought him out early.

I always ask him what's wrong and why he's nervous/anxious, which range from "I don't know anyone" to "she sat me at the back" to "it was loud"....... Things I can't control. My question is do I stop these lessons/extra curricular activities as its clearly upsetting him, or persevere? I'm inclined to think persevere, as if I left it to my son, I think he'd be happy sitting in the house with his toys! Has anyone else had experience with nervous kids and how to deal with it. Thank you 🙂

When DD went through an anxious phase in Y4, I found Helen Kennerley's book "Overcoming Anxiety" to be useful.
