Pinching & Random Aggression

Hi All,

I thought I’d post on here for some advice, as both my husband and I are at a loss as to how to fix our current situation with our youngest.

Our 3 year old son (our oldest DS is 4), has for the past year been quite the avid pincher and scratcher. He is otherwise a very bright, kind, and affectionate little boy, but we’ve noticed he’ll have these random bouts of aggression that’ll appear to just come out of nowhere and for no apparent reason. For example, he’ll be sitting watching a TV show calmly next to me, and then will suddenly grit his teeth together and reach over and pinch me, and then just calmly return to what he was doing. It’s constant, and despite repeatedly being told no, to use kind hands, to use his words instead of aggression, put in quiet time etc it never seems to work. It’s the randomness of it all that is the confusing part. He also occasionally hits his brother or scratches his face when he gets frustrated.

We’ve spoken to his daycare teachers and have been told he doesn’t exhibit this behaviour when with them or with any of the other children (thankfully!), but did say he’ll be rough with his brother occasionally, who is also at daycare with him.

I’m not sure what answer i’m hoping to get, but am more just seeking advice and to see if anyone else is going through this also, or has been through it before with their little ones?

Any advice or input is much appreciated at this stage!!

Many thanks 🙏
