My LO is nearly 15 months old ... please bear with me this is my first child and I am worried about his development.

He isn't yet showing gestures no pointing clapping or waving..
No clear words yet but very chatty and babbly

However he responds to his name and has good eye contact... no stimming as far as I can see (been reading on autism)

He walks well and will bring me toys and he is very engaged with me smiley and looks at me talks in his own little way...

I'm just more worried about the gestures really and he just doesn't seem interested in them... will they come?

Thank you

With no words and no gestures at almost 15 months, I would want him checked for a possible speech delay, I think. Some places have speech and language drop-ins you might be able to go to, or give your health visitor a call and ask her to do a review.

How is his understanding? How would he respond if you said something like 'snack time!' or 'let's go in the garden!'? Or something like 'where's your teddy?' How would he let you know he wanted something, a drink, to play a favourite game, that snack, not this one?

This https://www.socfc.org/SOHS/Disabilities%20Mental%20Health/ASQ/ASQ%203%2014%20Months.pdf is the review most health visitors use. The scoring sheet is at the back. It never expects 6 'yeses' in a section, and scoring in the grey in a section or two is quite common, and not usually a concern, but they're still supposed to give you some tips to help the wee one develop those skills.

I personally wouldn't worry too much my sister's son is 20 months and doesn't say any clear words apart from yes but he understands and nods his head if you ask him something (that's not too complex). My friend was also worried sick about her daughter who sounded like your son at 18 months and then as soon as she turned 2 she was chatting away.

Your kid is fine, he is engaging you, bringing toys to you is an expressive language.

He is now nearly 18 months... we have all gestures... clapping waving pointing... imitates me... high 5 brings me toys and will point to his noise etc...

All looks well but still no clear words... still very chatty but in his own language lol.

He is just speech delayed, not communication delay. I would recommend you get in touch with a Speech therapist and they can recommend games to play to imitate his speech. Otherwise, just wait it out.

When did the gestures started? Specially the pointing gesture? Mine. Is going 15 months, she can wave, and clap but not pointing. 😢
