How to broach ADHD with tween

I have a tween with suspected ADHD. It’s gotten worse recently. He starts second level school next year and I’m worried it’ll start to affect his education (it hasn’t yet).

Please could I have some advice from those of you who’ve been in similar situations, on the following:

  1. How did your tween’s ADHD diagnosis change things (school/life/behaviour) for them/you?
  2. What’s the best way to broach this with my child?
  3. Where do I start in terms of getting a diagnosis?
Many thanks for your advice and experience!

I started by buying a few fidget type toys for them to mess with when they were doing homework and researching strategies to help them.

Then I started talking about people with ADHD.

Took a while but by the time we got an appointment, which was through the GP, we were all pretty convinced DS had ADHD and it was confirmed at the appointment.

Thanks very much @SiouxsieSiouxStiletto for your reply.
He has some friends with ADHD and knows what it is to a degree. I’m just not sure how to broach the fact that it’s something he may have too.
Could I ask how life has changed for you and your child since the diagnosis?
