Typical toddler stuff or potential ASD?

Just looking for some experiences really, my DD is just 2 and I think she’s developing really well. She has lots of words and is stringing a few sentences together, is very sociable, great eye contact etc. No troubles with joint attention and is interested in the world and other children. Typical stuff. Passed her 2 year ASQ with flying colours.

But there are a couple of things I’m concerned about.

  1. She occasionally toe walks and has done since she learned to walk almost a year ago. It’s not all the time, maybe about 25% and only indoors.
  2. She handflaps a little when she’s excited.

Ive read that these two things are often associated with autism so I’m not sure if it’s worth following up with the HV. If it was just one I probably wouldn’t bother as she’s doing great in every other sense but the two together are making me think hmm.

She is low risk on the MCHAT but it didn’t ask about these things.

Woukd really appreciate some advice, TIA

I think some sort of physical expression of excitement is really common at 2 – they just can't possibly contain it at that age, so I don't think I would worry about a little excited hand-flapping at this age without a number of other points of concern.

The toe-walking I think is usually just a random childhood quirk, especially as you say she can walk normally and does walk normally most of the time, so again, I probably wouldn't be too concerned about this either, even taken together with the flapping. It could be a sensory thing, she likes the way it feels for some reason, or it could just be she's not quite grown out of it fully yet (I think it's common when they're first learning to walk).

Any other sensory quirks beyond normal toddlerhood, extreme fussy eating, particular about the feel of clothes, sensitive to noise/smells, really loves or really hates messy play, anything like that?

Thank you for the reply @skkyelark , that's reassuring. No other behaviours I've noticed (besides what seem like normal toddler tantrums I guess)

Feels like when you Google everything comes down to autism Confused
