Not sure what to do...

Hi all, im looking for some advice please. My son is going to be 3 next month and I'm finding some of his behaviours really strange, obsessive and repetitive and finding this more noticeable as he's getting older. I would like to know if your children do the same I'm a first time Mum so would just love some honest feedback.

  1. He is obsessed with balls to the point where whenever I go out to the park with him we have to bring one or else a big tantrum and he'd likely steal another child's ball off them or cry for their ball. I find it to be difficult for him to go on anything in the park as all he wants is that. For example we went to a gymnastic stay and play this morning wasn't interested in any of the equipment just fixated with the one small ball in a big room filled with lots of other equipment and at Soft Play only wants the ball pit..

  2. Unfortunately he only enjoys watching peppa pig trying so hard for him to watch something else. Very recently got him into paw patrol movie but will only watch the same snippet of it then wants me to turn off.

  3. He will say the exact same sentences when we drive past specific roads, objects and will keep repeating it until I answer him.

  4. He picks up certain toys like his bricks and holds them up close to his face stares at them in a funny way then puts them back down and will just sit and repeat that.

  5. Will insist on us only singing the same nursery rhyme or play the same songs on Alexa and will cry if we do anything different.

These are just examples I don't want to waffle on too much...I'm just finding it's like a real OCD type behaviour where he likes such a strict predictive routine and if it doesn't go his way real tears and meltdown kick in so easily. So i guess what i'm trying to ask is could this possible be early signs of Autism?

TIA x

Hi OP it could be early signs might be worth getting checked out but even if it was it is probably very mild.

Thank you for your reply, I rang up HV and they said the exact same thing so i'm waiting on a phone call now to answer some questions about him. They should be able to make a decision then if he should be referred or not..Thanks again

I'd ask your HV to do the 36 month Ages & Stages Assessment. You can download it and start filling it in today so it's ready if you like Wink
