Any tips for getting my DD talking?

My 17 month old says a few words when prompted, says mama dada, grandad. Will go up to any animal and say 'hello!' Very enthusiastically 😂 she's really trying on a few others and nearly there but not very coherent, and apart from that she just makes animal and car noises. I'm not at all worried about her development as she is meeting every milestone but just wondered what specific things people did to aid those first words and sentences (apart from constantly talking!)

In addition to just narrating your day, you can try building on what she says, just one step further on. She says 'baa!', you say 'yes, sheep say baa!', she says 'bus!' you say 'yes, big bus!' Essentially you're showing her the next step, plus you're giving her words that fit with what her attention is on right that minute. It's also good to leave space for her to respond to what you're saying, even if she mostly doesn't actually respond yet. Plus offering a choice (red shirt or yellow shirt (holding them out for her to choose), apple or pear, etc.) also helps head off at least a few toddler tantrums!
