My little girl is 20 months old and is only babbling and not saying any word except dada or daddy consistently.

she doesn’t really point to things but had recently started to bring things to us such as a bottle or empty bowl to indicate she wants something.

she plays well with toys and is so happy all the time. She struggles with socialising sometimes unless she is comfortable with people she knows.

I was very isolated when she was first born so she socialised very little (I feel guilty about this most days)

she’s been referred to a paediatrician and I am just so worried about Autism being a diagnosis!

I want to hear some peoples stories of similar presentation and what helped or when it didn’t lead to Autism diagnosis.

my gut tells me it just a delay but I can’t help but worry.

It's really good that her delay has been picked up so young and she's been referred. If she does need support you should hopefully get this in place before she starts school.

Has she had a hearing test or been referred to SLT yet?

Hi,

Yeah she had a hearing test and passed that fine.

It's so hard not to worry but I am glad the professionals are being proactive - the health visitor was umming and arring about it as she is almost certain it's just a delay and she will pick it up (I must say I've noticed a massive improvement since this referral was made communication wise) .. but it can take 6-8 months to be seen so would rather have it in place then if we don't need it great but if we do it's there

Exactly! Much better that she has an assessment and she's caught up and is fine than get not get referred until there's a crises.

Have you found the SN Children Section yet? There will probably be some other MNers going through a similar situation in there Flowers
