Worried about 14 month old’s development

DC hasn’t taken her first step yet, she started crawling at 10 months and she’s very fast at crawling now. She has been cruising since 11/12 months, she can stand up by herself without leaning on anything sometimes, otherwise she finds it very easy to pull herself up and walk alongside something. If I hold her hands she’ll take a few steps with me but she seems very cautious and won’t take the plunge and walk a step on her own. Is this normal?

she also doesn’t say many words yet, only about 4/5. She babbles a lot and makes gestures, her understanding is good. I’m worried shes behind, I keep talking to her and encourage her to talk. She is my first baby so I’m not sure what’s normal, but a lot of my mum friends babies are all walking now so don’t know what else to do.

any advice or thoughts appreciated - thanks

Sounds very similar to my DD who crawled at 10.5 months. She took her first steps at 15 months and was confidently walking a month later.

As for speech, she wasn’t even saying 4 or 5 at that age, only mama and dada. Wasn’t speaking much by her 2nd birthday honestly but by age 2.5 was speaking very well.. doesn’t shut up now (3y3m). Wasn’t concerned as her understanding was very good.

Your DD sounds lovely, just give her a bit more time. If her understanding is good, I wouldn’t worry about her speech yet. As for walking, anything up to 18 months is considered normal!

I agree, she sounds just fine, and like she is doing very well with her speech. Since she's confidently pulling up and cruising and can stand alone, I'm sure walking will come. And yes, it's 18 months before it's considered late, so ages yet in the life of a baby.

How is she doing now @shineonyoucrazydiamondd ?

Walking isn't a concern until they are 18 months. I wouldn't be bothered if she's already standing.

As for her speech, how does she do on this progress tracker?

She’s walking! She took her first steps a few weeks later, then a couple of weeks later she was walking. I went to pick her up at nursery and she just walked over to me - I nearly cried!

Now there’s no stopping her 😂 so easy to get worried but she’s doing well!

That's fantastic! It's difficult not to have nagging worries about these things. It's great that she's now unstoppable :)
