Rudeness

I really need some advise on how to handle my 8 year olds behaviour.

We are at our wits end of how he speaks to us and his total lack of respect for us as parents.

We have SDD today so DH has the day off to take them out they have been looking forward to it. DS comes in when he wakes up and asks when we will be leaving…hubby says 9-10 ish depending on when we are ready. He must of then asked a million times when we are going despite being told. He then rebels against everything he’s asked to do to get ready-get dressed, put on sun cream, socks, bring out his breakfast things, he’s then calling my husband an idiot and telling him to shut up when we ask him to do something.

This behaviour is pretty common and we are not really sure how to handle this, DH threatened not to take him out (which was an empty threat tbh and shouldn’t of said this as I would be at work and he would have to have gone) .

His behaviour is fine at school, he’s a little behind his peers academically but they have no issues with him.

The lack of respect and they way he speaks to us at home is unacceptable and we can’t take much more.

Could you change how you deal with him a little, so instead of giving him a vague time say you're leaving at 10, earlier if he can get ready sooner.

Then try to make things into a little game, so put the timer on when he's applying sunscreen and see how quickly he can do it so it turns the event into a fun game for him. Although if he's 8 and a little behind I would be putting the sunscreen on for him.

If he is a little behind, have you asked the school's SENCO to observe him?
