Moany and sleepy

My LO recently had a couple of nights where they'd wake up and be really wriggly and moany (not really crying - no tears, but almost that way). He'd go back to sleep and then wake again maybe 45 mins later. This continued for 5 hrs, repeated the following night.
Then the next night, although still waking, it was only 2 ir 3 times, and what i would call a decent sleep. After these nights they're back at nursery but are super moany, uninterested, lying on the floor etc.. they're normally the life of nursery...want to try everything, quite loud, engaged, curious...!
Nursery have sent them home as 'not fit to play' policy. No fever, rashes, spots etc...not teething, tummy seems ok.
I wondered if it was growing pains. Has anyone any ideas or experineced this? 18mo.
TIA X

Sounds like they could be a little unwell? Have you tried a dose of Calpol?

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto hey, yes both calpol and ibuprofen - which do seem to make a difference. It's just because there were no other symptoms that it felt a bit strange. Maybe it is an underlying illness! X
