Repetitive body movements - baby

Hello all,
I'm a first-time mum and still very much learning the ropes.
My baby is nearly 11 weeks old. I've noticed that during his wake windows he continually moves his head from side to side and 'boxes' the air with his hands! This goes on day and night. Is this normal????

It can be if you have a wriggly one. Both my daughters were perpetual motion machines in utero and continued the trend once born. I had a good laugh at the advice in one of the booklets from the heath visitor about 'encourage baby to kick their legs vigorously' – um, try to stop them! They were both busy babies, but the motion got less frenetic as they gained control and could explore toys (and random household objects) in a more controlled way.

What's drawn my attention is how repetitive the actions are.

Ahh good point about toys. He is yet to be interested in those, but desperate to sit up! He hates being flat.
