my ds has been dribbling, chewing hands and sucking his gums for about 2 weeks now. these past 2 days he has been screaming in pain so i've given him calpol. what i was wondering is how long does this last? will he be in pain every day until a tooth comes through? (which could take months!) or does it come and go? thanks

He won't be in constant pain but if you get some gauze and rub it on his gums each day, it will toughen them up and help.

It'll come and go until the tooth comes through, which can be any time between birth and a year according o my HV. Mine have never had real pain as such though, the poor wee thing.

My DD started at four months with red cheeks, and gumming things to death, but her tooth didn't pop out intil a few weeks ago at 7.5 months.

I give her Nelson's Teetha chamomilia powders which really settle it down as I don't like giving calpol willy-nilly.

bonjela also helps.

meant to say that there were only a few teethy episodes between 4 months and the tooth popping out, so not bad for her really.

Just regular first aid gauze.

We used it daily from 12 weeks and he cut all his teeth with barely a whimper.

No time to do it with DD and we knew about every tooth.

i used to put edge of flannel in freezer and rub it on sore area my ds was teething at 2 weeks

also dentinox teething gel can be used every 20 mins that was a godsend and the bonjela cool is fab on there gums so soothing
