I have no idea - but i used to do it when i was small (mostly corners of pages in books) so I've always assumed it's not completely weird...

The first thing my dd2 ever ever ate was my DH's birthday card she got hold of. I hadn't even started weaning! I was heartbroken, but she is OK .
She certainly got a taste for it and has always eaten paper and card more than food I have prepared at age 18mths. She has only now stopped it age 2.5 so I would think it will just be a phase.

My 2 1/2 year old eats his teddy. For as long as I can remember, he pulls little bits of teddy fur off, rolls it between his fingers and eats it. Poor teddy is wearing thin and I have warned him what will happen one day. Teddy has already undergone major reconstructive surgery.

Kids are weird.

dd4 was terrible for this from about a year old but it seems to be waning now she is 2.5!

She seems to have stopped eating the cat biscuits too.
