Hi ladies so I have recently found out my son has autism. He is non verbal 2.9 years old. Today we went to soft play and he didn’t join in and doesn’t know about sharing and seeing all the other children playing and my son just running in the eating area got me so emotional I left after half an hour of the two hour slot crying. He doesn’t play with toys and just runs everywhere espcecially outside so has to be in the pushchair or runs off. Does it get better? I’m so emotional. In the last theee months he has started to follow simple instructions, get his shoes, ball, book, close the door etc he can now clap, wave, point, knows his colours, animals, numbers, alphabet as when I ask him he points at everything correctly. He can match and is a whizz at the iPad. He flaps his arms which is fine but I find running away and not taking the hardest. Anyone else had their toddler do this and with age things get better? He is at a nursery who are aware and helping him but will start a NARP provision in September thankfully. Any advice is very appreciated. TIA

I'm afraid I don't have any personal experience, but perhaps try posting this in SN children or SN chat – the posters there are very helpful, and some of them will have been there with their own children.

Thank You but I am not sure how to post there.

Ah, right. Go to the 'all talk topics' list, and then if you scroll down, there's a special needs section. They're both in there.
