Best age for nursery

Would love to hear views on this...

If you didn't need childcare but want your child to socialise and gain independence etc when would you recommend they start nursery? And when I say start nursery I only mean a couple of half days a week. Obviously considering the cost of it as well, it's not cheap!

All of the evidence says 3 years. Before that they're better off, in most circumstances with Mum. Which obviously is not a viable option for most people.
