Looking out peripheral vision

20 month son is a late talker. Babbles a lot but only has a couple of words. Understanding is good however and he can communicate easily with us with pointing and nodding etc. eye contact good but not always with strangers. Very energetic. Sometimes makes an odd throaty noise that he’s squeezing all the air out his lungs to make the noise (hard to explain). Anyway he mouths things a lot. Has his hands in his mouth a lot of the time too. The thing that’s concerning me the most is he’s started looking out the side of his eye while walking down the hallway and also did it running outside in a circle. Looks a bit odd and I don’t really know any other toddlers that do it. I’m starting to worry now that he has a few things that point to asd. Anyone have any suggestions/advice/thoughts? Thanks in advance

Similar position to you so commenting in solidarity and hoping for some advice depending on where you’re upto :)
my son is almost 18 months and currently still babbling using the same sounds he has for a while, no words yet just AH for apple when prompted, not in context ha.

My main concern is the spinning and side eyeing he does, which sounds very similar to your son. My son will run past the radiator / fences / tables / patterns on walls / sofa / book shelf etc and will also spin with his eyes to the side a lot.
currently awaiting the health visitor doing a face to face.

How is your son now? And if you don’t mind me asking, when did he start to talk?
hope you’re ok!!

Hey, he now has a lot of words all used in the correct context. He just turned 2. Really it’s just been a quick build up of words since he was 21months.
He stopped doing the side eyeing however we’re not trying to settle him into nursery and it’s quite stressful and he’s started doing it again time to time. I’m not sure how concerned I am really. He’s a good communicator and seems to be developing normally to me! He is quite socially anxious around other children but I’m not sure if that’s just personality!
hope it goes well with the HV, 18 months is still very young. Our son certainly had no words at that age. X
