Jerking hands movement waking up DD1 - 13.5 weeks

We used to swaddle DD1 until the past few days when she kept kicking off the swaddle and waking up cold (we think).

DH bought a sleeping bag for her, which works fine for keeping her body warm but everytime her arms jerk (Moro reaction?) when she is about to doze off or when she is half awake during a sleep, she will cry and cannot settle herself back to sleep.

Tried swaddling her arms outside the sleeping bag with a muslin but it comes off easily. We cant cover her with another sheet as the sleeping bag we are using is 2.5Tog and room temperature is between 18-20C. Cant find a 0.5 or 1 Tog sleeping bag.

Any idea how to help her deal with the jerking arms?

DS had a very strong moro reflex for months. I would go back to the swaddling if I were you.

I she's cold get a fleece sleepsuit and get a bit rough when it comes to swaddling - as tight as you dare!

Yeah - thinking of doing that - back to swaddling. She is so sleepy but cant sleep - pitiful.

I have the same problem with my DS - 6 weeks!

tempted to make one of those "security belts" that hold their hands by their sides, but think social services may have something to say!

See this is where "back to sleep" is bad news - they don't startle awake on their fronts. It's a tough few weeks. (Once they start turning themselves over you can leave them to it)

Can you find a flannelette cot sheet or equivalent somewhere? In America they use "receiving blankets", which are woven (not knitted) and hold their arms firmly - that's what you want.
