Hello,
my son is 20 months old. Only has a couple of simple words (dig and ta) doesn’t even say mama or dada yet. He is absolutely obsessed with running water, to the point he gets very very upset if you take him away from any water play (he could spend hours there). He has to touch everything with his mouth - Even bursts bubbles with his mouth. He really likes textured. And when tired or impatient/frustrated he makes this strange noise - like a low pitch vibrating noise, like he’s forcing all air out his lungs. (Hard to describe sorry!) he doesn’t make this noise every day though, it’s not repetitive.
he does have good eye contact. Likes pretend play. Enjoys playgroups but doesn’t play with other children, I think that’s too early though anyway. He points and has good shared communication. He understands pretty well.
anyway I guess I’m just trying to work out if this is all normal or should I be pushing my concerns to HV. I have noted the lack of words to her but she has told me not to worry. I am using some online support tools from SALT to try and help him along!
just looking for some advice, experiences people may have. Thanks in advance!

I d be a bit more forceful with getting a SALT referral bit from everything else you say it does seem more like a speech delay at the moment
(HV dismissed my concerns at 18 months but persistence got him referred at 22 months and since our area has a years wait, there's no harm in pushing for one to then decline an appointment by that time if things get better)

However you can also push to have his 2 year check exactly on time which does look at some questions on social skills so would go through any ASD related concerns you have.

Thank you so much for the reply, I will give them a call and push for the referral
