Feel like I’ve failed at weaning

Hi,

title says it all, please any advice. My son who’s nearly 13 months doesn’t eat. I do BLW with him and he doesn’t want to touch certain foods or even try them. He won’t touch fruit or veg, meat etc. what he will touch is crisps or breadsticks or cheese cubes. I don’t offer these everyday as I do a variety of foods and colours on his tray. He will give the food a look of disgust when they’re something like starwberries on his tray and won’t touch his food. Breakfast he never eats, lunch is hit and miss depending on if there’s anything he likes on his tray & tea again is hit and miss so I’ve got a very grumpy toddler who’s hungry.

I don’t get stressed and if he doesn’t eat I pretend not to care and take him away but he’s losing weight from not eating,

below is his meals

7am cows milk half a beaker
8:30 breakfast either toast or weetibix (toast is always untouched)
12:00 lunch - everything thrown on floor and given a look of disgust
15:00 small snack of fruit and breadstick (fruit untouched)
17:00 tea which again is untouched
18:00 half a beaker of milk

hes so fussy and won’t try anything new even if exposed to certain foods lots of times. Blueberries are nearly always on his tray and he never touches them.

has anybody got any advice? He’s otherwise fit and well.

How much milk does he have in the beaker @Emmaeloiseee?

Have you tried giving the milk with his breakfast to see if he'll eat a bit more?

I have tried giving the breakfast with the milk but he goes straight for the milk. He has about 4/5oz in the morning and then again Just before bed x

Ok sorry unless he's still having milk in the night he's not having too much.

Is there a reason that you think you're failing? Is he going down the weight and height centiles?

Silly question but have you tried spoon feeding him?

Emmaeloiseee · 09/05/2023 08:59

He’s not having any milk in the night but does sleep through on how little he eats. Today I made him breakfast of pancakes, banana and some raisins (he likes them) because I read that with fussy eaters you put something they’re familiar with on the tray but all he ate was the raisins everything else went on the floor. I wouldn’t say it’s a phase as he’s always been very selective of what he’s fed himself. I’d say he only eats about 6 foods himself and that’s it he won’t try anything new at all. I’m exposing him to lots of new foods but he doesn’t want any of them
