Nail varnish on boys

My ds, 2yr 9m often asks to have his nails varnished copying his older sister. I am happy to do this but DH thinks it looks odd.
Does anyone else paint their ds's nails?

no i don't but think i might be in this situation in the future. ds is 3.5, dd is 1. already ds wants to try on her hair clips etc. i wld feel uncomf about painting his nails altho i would think there is no harm in it..

spaghettiarms · 17/02/2008 22:19

never did a whole hand but if I am painting my nails and DS1 is around he usually wants me to paint his as well... I do one nail on each hand and he chooses which we choose.

0y ds often had painted nails when he was little - big sister did it and he loved it. Then he started to be a bit self conscious about ti so she started painting toenails only. He was about 5.5 whe he didn't even want his toenails painted. Dd was very sad!

LyraSilvertongue · 17/02/2008 22:24

I did my toenails this morning. Of course DSs (5 and 3) came racing over, fascinated. They were extremely happy when I did their toes too

Indulge him! Nothing wrong with it at all.

Othersideofthechannel · 18/02/2008 20:20

Agree with Satine.
DS is 4 and last summer had his toenails painted. I didn't say yes the first time he asked but only because we were expecting friends and I thought he'd be rushing round before it dried properly.
I doubt he'll ask this summer. He is starting to get a sense of what his classmates think is 'just for girls'.

southeastastra · 18/02/2008 20:21

i did it once or twice when my ds(6) was small, didn't last long though, he didn't have patience to let it dry

SparklyDYSONGothKat · 18/02/2008 20:21

my ds1 used to love having his nails painted, he outgrew it at about 5.

OrmIrian · 18/02/2008 20:24

When DS#1 was about 2 we were on a ferry and DS was fascinated by a woman painting her nails a very bright pink. He got nearer and nearer and eventually she offered to do his . Actually I think she might have though he was a girl as he was very pretty at that age and had Little Lord Fauntleroy curls. He was very proud of his pink nails but I don't suppose he'd appreciate now he's 11.

MrsCarrot · 18/02/2008 20:24

Ds1 often had blue or purple toes when he was about 4.

Whizzz · 18/02/2008 20:26

Hmmmm how about yr7 boys with dyed streaks in their (past shoulder) length hair then - we have a couple of those at school??

Othersideofthechannel · 18/02/2008 20:27

Mrscarrot, sounds like bad circulation!

SEA, we did it just before a bit of TV time to ensure it dried properly

TheLadyEvenstar · 19/02/2008 02:28

lol ohhh the memories, ds1 now 9 used to love me painting his finger nails....mind you i did worry when i found him tottering around in my heels....but he grew out of it by time he was 4.
