Hi,
First time mom. My 13 month old does not clap, wave or point but does walk. Also does not do peek a boo but if I tap tap on the highchair, will copy that and finds it funny.
Will bang toys together and has done for months. Follows a point. Has a ball popper and will easily put balls in and press the button to pop them out etc.
I thought she was waving as occasionally would flap her arm up and down when people waved but seems to have stopped and only happened maybe 3 or 4 times so not sure if that was just fluke.
Has been saying dada for about 4 months but no signs of mama. Does say different babbling sounds but no words as yet.
Just abit concerned on lack of gestures and imitating. I think the fact she is not saying mama is because she won't copy me.
Had 12 month review with health visitor who wasn't concerned at the time but that was at 11.5 months and said will phone me in 2 months due to my concerns and anxiety about it but wasn't bothered at all at that point.

Just wondered if anyone had a baby who was later at gestures and turned out fine

Thanks

How does she score on this SLT progress checker @Worriedmom123?

Not sure why the links aren't working. Try here

Answered three to No.
But if any are answered no it recommends contacting a speech and language specialist.

Ok, so they have a helpline. If I were me, I think I'd call them tomorrow and talk through your concerns.

Then call the HV. The very least she needs is a hearing test and a referral to SLT Flowers

@elskio26 has your HV done the 12 month check yet?

Worriedmom123 · 04/10/2023 20:46

18 months now
Claps and points, plays peek a boo, says mama, dada and 4 other words and brilliant understanding so no concerns. Will wave if you're lucky but still not much waving, generally think she just doesn't like to!

Ah ok. You can do the 12 month Ages & Stages Assessment yourself, the score sheet is at the bottom.

It's normal fir them to score grey in a couple of areas but if it's more than that, I'd perhaps speak to a Paediatrician Flowers

When did your LO started pointing and waving?

Worriedmom123 · 11/10/2023 22:50

Pointing at 15 months
Waving still very rare

Thank you for your responses to my questions. I am really worried about my LO not pointing and waving. But she can clap and is very social.. With good eye contact and name response. She dont immitate that much but here are times she is immitating. She babbles fairly. I think age started proximal pointing when ask. Like when i show her a baby picture she will point on it and say babi (baby) but she dont do distant pointing yet. Hope she will learn it soon.. She was born at 36 weeks and 3 daya due to early labor and emergency CS. I am not sure of that is something to be considered about.. I dont have other concerns for now just thr pointing and waving and a minimal immitating.

my son is 13 months old he isn’t clapping but has done before no pointing says mamma occasionally and dadda says yellow in his own way if you ask what the duck does he will say quack if you ask what the dinosaur does he will raw however mamma and dadda isn’t consistent he can goes weeks without saying it.

he has now started flapping his hands he responds to his name and his eye contact is good when singing and dancing to him or if he is not distracted

everywere I have read about clapping pointing flapping hands and twirling wrists suggests autism he also does this when excited and pulls faces

has anyone else’s 13 month old done this and what was your outcome I can not stop researching night after night my little boy also has a never slept through the night but I think it’s comfort for milk once he has milk he’s back down
