there are ones that do from 9 months to 11years that might be a good idea for you. They still use a 5 point harness but then the back comes off them for being used just as a booster seat when they are big enough.

DebitheScot · 15/02/2008 13:46

like this one

He is heavy enough to be safe. If he is still comfortable in a toddler seat I would keep him in the toddler seat as long as possible.

The pre schooler seats with the lap belt are really easy to undo. Life is easier when they are in a toddler seat.

We're in the same position as you, juicychops - DD is just 3 and only just over 15kg. Needed to promote DS to DD's car seat as he'd outgrown his infant carrier but was a bit worried about her being too small for the next size. Spoke to Britax customer care (v helpful) who recommended the Evolva 123. Similar to the one suggested already, goes from 9kg, uses a 5 point harness until they are 18kg then it goes to a standard lap belt.

VanillaPumpkin · 15/02/2008 13:49

My dd is 2.5 and over 15kg already. Our current seat has a max of 18kg and so I am using that until she is too big for it IYSWIM rather than moving her because she has reached the minimum weight for the next stage. Dd1 was smaller and so was a few months short of 4 I think when we moved her up. What weight does your current seat go up to? I would keep him in that for as long as poss.

lizziemun · 15/02/2008 13:51

DD1 is 4yrs and just over 2 1/2 stone (don't what that is in KG) and is still in the car seat.

She does you a car seat/booster seat if she is going in someone elses car IYKWIM.

I'm keeping her in her seat until dd2 is to big for the baby seat. So she will probally be about 4 1/2 or nearly 5yrs. I'm in know rush to move her from her seat yet.

tassisssss · 15/02/2008 13:53

not long beofre he turned 4, though I know a lot of people who'd done it earlier. I wanted to keep him in 5 point harness as long as possible and he was happy enough.

juicychops · 15/02/2008 13:59

Think the one he has goes up to 20kg so he can stay in it longer. ive only been considering moving to the next stage one because the one he has now, where it was only a cheap one from argos 2.5 years ago, its really tatty and ripping and could do with being replaced so rather than buy an infant one and then the older one, it would be cheaper to get the older one

What about the Britax Evolva 2-3?? This did well in the Which tests is quite reasonable and sounds safer than the one you have. Will do current stage with 5 point belt and then adult seat belt?

juicychops · 15/02/2008 14:05

yeah, it does look good. maybe a bit out of my price range though. Might go to mothercare ath the weekend and have a better look at it and compare it to some others.

. I mean the 1-2-3, but I think you know that by your metion of costs. It is pricey. Shame.

LIZS · 15/02/2008 15:47

dd 96) still in her Stage 2 - Evolva 123 on offer at Halfords atm.

Seona1973 · 15/02/2008 19:38

my dd was 3 and a bit when she moved to the next car seat but that was because we needed her old one (maxi cosi priori xp) for ds as he was getting too big for his infant carrier. I have never had a problem with her and the adult seatbelt but I suppose it depends on the child really.

mumtoone · 15/02/2008 20:13

ds is 4 and a quarter and still in his stage 2 car seat as he's quite small and I don't think he's reached 15kg yet. I am going to have to move him up soon as dd will need his car seat. I am waiting as long as possible to give him a chance of reaching 15kg.
