Is there anyone who failed MCHAT, but the LO was NOT diagnosed ASD ?

We failed MCHAT for my LO, and I’m really worried now!

Hello again @Saum Wink

I've seen on here before that sometimes people can get false results on MChat.

One thing that needs ruling out is Glue Ear.

Are you in the UK? If you are, I'd call your HV. Tell them your concerns and ask them to refer LO for a Hearing Test.

I'd also ask her to assess LO using the Ages & Stages for 18 months. This might give her a more realistic idea of what's going on than the MChat. If it does flag up some concerns, do not let the HV adopt a "wait and see approach". We did and it took us years to get an assessment for DD.

If it does turn out to be Glue Ear, the NDCS are usually very helpful and membership is free.

There is no hearing concern for sure. May I know did you have similar concerns with your LO?

There might not be an obvious hearing concern but he will need a hearing test just to rule out hearing loss before he sees an SLT.

And yes, we did have similar concerns, although I wasn't aware of the link between speech delay and ASD then.

Our DC2 had speech delay and is now on the ASD pathway, awaiting assessment.

There's a thread currently running in the Parenting Section which you might find useful here.

Have you found the SN Children Section yet as well @Saum? You should get some support in there Flowers
