Behaviour towards cat

I'm at a loss and really need advice as to how to deal with my sons behaviour towards our cat. Son is 3 in July. He generally loves the cat but takes playing too far and has thrown toys at him (thankfully misses) and tries to kick him.

It really upsets me. I don't know how more I can say you must do that to him, we must be kind to animals, it makes him and me sad when you do that.

What else can I do? Annoyingly we rent and there's no where really I can put him in a proper time out as none of the doors really close properly. I've thought about putting him in a high chair in the hall but don't want him to get negative connotations when he eats.

Our other son who is 18 months is great with the cat.

Help!

Had the DCat got a sage space to go to?

Personally I think the language you are using with DS is to advanced. He needs a firm No and the toy removing.

*safe space unless your DCat is actually a sage?

I think you need to continue to be firm.
Cats aren’t stupid. They will look elsewhere to live if their lives become a misery. Be prepared for him/her to set up residence elsewhere.
The alternative is a safe heaven, such as a spare bedroom.

We've put a baby gate on our bedroom as he likes it on the bed in there.

It's not all the time, more often than not they play it's every now and then but when he does it, it really upsets me.

I'll simplify my language a bit, and we take the toy away.

Also started to get him involved in caring for the cat, like doing his food and water.
