Toddler tantrums/ behaviour

Need some advice!
My toddler is now 22 months old and his tantrums are so bad! He's the most lovable and cheeky boy. But when told no, or sometimes random out bursts, he has begun pulling my hair or digging his nails into our skin.
Its so upsetting to see your child like this, and especially when this happens in public. I just want to know if anyone has any tips?
At the moment we firmly explain its not kind, sit him on his bum and ignore him. But just don't feel like anything is helping.

really feel for you! Toddlers are brutal!
what helped me was to ignore bad behaviour and reward good with attention. Say things like gentle hands and not pick my boy up until he stops hitting me.

I'm in the same boat here, doing same stuff as you too but also looking for more advice.

This somtimes works but not always, my auntie told me to try and distract him with a toy or something different or interesting, like one time i used a beautiful garden to distract him when he started a tantrum when we were outside walking. Saying things like 'oh wow some beautiful red tulips, can you see how many there are... let's count them' etc.
